The movement for transparent and accountable leadership continues to gain momentum as the Western Visayas leg of the “Tayo ang Good Gov Generation” caravan successfully concluded in Iloilo City on Thursday, April 16, 2026.
The caravan featured a dual-pronged approach to local leadership and civic participation: a strategic Mayors’ Workshop and a dynamic Youth Engagement Forum.
During the Mayors’ Workshop, local chief executives from the provinces of Iloilo, Aklan, Antique, Negros Occidental, and Cebu gathered to discuss collaborative governance. A primary focus of the session was the proactive drafting of local policies designed to mitigate the socioeconomic impacts of the ongoing Middle East crisis on their respective constituents.
Simultaneously, the “Tayo ang Good Gov Generation” Youth Engagement Forum brought together more than 200 youth leaders representing various localities and organizations across the region. The forum served as a platform to empower the next generation in championing the crusade for good governance. Several local chief executives from the Mayors for Good Governance (M4GG) network were also in attendance, standing in solidarity with the youth participants.
The delegates were energized by insights from distinguished guest speakers, including content creator and news reporter Ms. Janina Vela; TAYO Awards Foundation Chairperson Mr. Paolo Calalang; and Baguio City Mayor Benjie Magalong, who serves as one of the convenors of M4GG.
The successful execution of the Western Visayas leg was made possible through the warm reception and active cooperation of the Iloilo City Government, under the leadership of Mayor Raisa TreƱas.
The organizers also extended their deep appreciation to the dedicated youth leaders and volunteers who ensured the forum was both meaningful and productive. Organized in continued partnership with the British Embassy Manila and the TAYO Awards Foundation, the nationwide caravan remains committed to visiting communities nationwide to empower citizens and institutionalize good governance.
